Hello friends,
Happy New Year, and welcome to 2025. It’s that special time of year, and I just returned from two back-to-back trips throughout Europe- one to Tuscany and the other to Paris! I came home with lots of fodder for my stories and my textile designs. On that note, I created a new pattern based upon the 11th century Tuscan villa we stayed at (and where. my daughter will be married next Fall), and it’s Called Medici Garden. Check out my story on Nest by Tamara about this beautiful place and the fabric and wallpaper design I created upon my return home.
If you are new here, let me return to the beginning and tell you a bit about me. Since 2000, I have been busy creating beautiful interiors for myself and my clients. Over the years I have fine-tuned my aesthetic, which some have referred to as "sophisticated cottage meets urban living.” I am a graduate of Castleton University then Parsons School of Design, and over the years I have worked extensively in the industry- first at Barbara Southerland Interior Decoration & Design before taking on my own clients. My interiors are a medley of modern furnishings, accessories and eclectic art which I love to combine with antiques and vintage finds, and my interiors are layered, yet well edited.
Today, I work as a residential interior designer but also as a product designer, freelance writer and since 2010 the author of popular design and lifestyle blog, Nest by Tamara. I added textile design to my resume in 2015 when I launched American-made textile and wallpaper company, root cellar designs. It’s been such a great learning experience to add product designer to my skill base.
I am often invited to speak at design industry events to share my expertise on the subjects of interior design, entertaining and the international design markets. Nest by Tamara blog was voted #1 design blog by Modenus for the TOP 100 DESIGN BLOGS. In 2019, I was named a Rising Star of Design for my product design.
